If you don’t know what to do, go wide then go deep.
--
“I don’t know what I want to do for my career.”
“I don’t know what I should major in for university.”
“I don’t know what I should do.”
Most of us have been lost in one area or another before. How do you know what’s best?
My view: Explore various options, then pick the one that’s best for you.
I started my content creation journey by writing book summaries on my blog. Then, I started writing newsletters. Illustrating ideas has had the most success. I’ve been publishing 1 visual a day since I started.
You’ll know deep in your heart when you’ve found the best option for you. That’s when you give your full attention to make it work.
You’ll be tempted by other seemingly good ideas, but you’ve got to sacrifice them to hone that one great idea or endeavour to the best of your ability.
In my case, I’ve been tempted to do reels and podcasts, but they take away time to illustrate ideas.
“But would I stay stuck with this 1 thing forever?”
I don’t believe so.
While I haven’t figured out what the next big thing is for me yet, I know that I can do more and better things by illustrating ideas. And I trust that I will know deep down when the time comes for me to explore again.
For now, it’s about mastering the craft and raising the quality of my works.
Are you in an exploratory phase or is it time for you to double down on your strength?
